Green is another main color that has caused discussion among collectors because of Carder's use of so many hues.  As with the blues, there are at least 16 green hues found in Carder Steuben.  Also, just as hearing perception is unique to each individual, so is the ability (or lack thereof) to see fine differences in hues.  Controversy has arisen because many people simply are unable to differentiate minute differences in hue, whereas others have no difficulty doing so. Further complicating color identification is the fact that color or hue appears darker or more intense in thicker glass, and conversely, the same color or hue appears lighter when the glass is thinner and more transparent.  Additionally, cased glass - regardless of whether the casing is on the inside or outside - affects the intensity of hue.
